On 1 January 2025, IDM-Systems Zrt. launched a new R&D project focusing on automated quality control of industrial products with complex geometric and surface properties.

The project is funded by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office with 437,499,023 HUF, and is scheduled to be completed by 31 December 2026.

In discrete manufacturing, the challenge of reliable and documented control of complex shapes produced on flexible production lines is growing. Traditional single degree of freedom measurement systems are limited and often do not provide accurate, complete inspection.

IDM-Systems' development aims to solve this problem by using multi-degree-of-freedom mechanics, six-degree-of-freedom robotic arms and laser snapshot scanners. The system will be able to move objects or scanner heads in a variety of ways and scan the geometry in its entirety, minimising blind spots and increasing measurement accuracy.

Software modules to be developed in the framework of the project:

  • calibration,
  • measurement design,
  • automatic path generation,
  • point cloud creation,
  • evaluation of results.

The solution can be directly integrated with PLCs on the shop floor as well as with higher-level enterprise systems (MES, MOM, LIMS), resulting in a universal hardware-software platform that can be used in a wide range of industrial environments.
